Recently, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes was the keynote speaker at the annual luncheon of the Colorado Black Women Political Action here in Denver, Colorado. Her message was powerful, impactful and inspiring to over 500 people in attendance. She is truly one of the most dynamic leaders in Congress.

Jahana’s life is a testament to triumph over adversity. Despite growing up amid poverty and addiction, and becoming pregnant at 17- she returned to school, earned multiple degrees, reached the zenith of teaching, and now serves in Congress. She attributes her success to education. Jahana stands as living proof that good government can work. As the first African-American Congresswoman from Connecticut, Jahana has had a remarkable journey from being named National Teacher of the Year by President Obama to serving in Congress.
